4/5 of the way there

These kids continue to keep me on my toes...

Well I had it all worked out... there was a lot to cram into a day but I did it. I had my schedule down...bulletproof:

4:00 am - Get up, shower, eat breakfast, kiss Mary, drive to hospital
4:45 am - Change Adam, feed Adam, change Grace, feed Grace, pester nurses with questions, go to work
6:30 am - “Work”
12:00 pm - Lunch, kiss Mary
1:00 pm - “Work”
4:00 pm - Go home, wrestle with Dalton, wrestle with Carl, kiss Mary, wrestle with Dalton and Carl, clean wounds, eat dinner, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Homework, kiss Mary
7:30 pm - Go to hospital, change Adam, feed Adam, change Grace, feed Grace, pester nurses with questions, go home
10:30 pm - Get Dalton in bed, kiss Mary, pet Carl, homework, watch Fox News, update website, Get Dalton back in bed
12:00 am - Go to bed, kiss Mary, sleep

simple...

I had a big 11x17 excel spreadsheet with all my action items... and everyone else’s for that matter for the coming week. Pumping times for Mary, feeding schedules, when to put the dog out, when to eat, when to sleep, when to po... well you get the idea. I was dialed in! With my master plan the family would be a finely tuned machine... until the call.

I called the hospital to confirm the pending car seat test for Grace, and the nurse calmly told me that she would be coming home today!

Coming home? Hmmm let me check the McCorkle Family Schedule spreadsheet... nope, not on there. None of the 3395 cells contained the text “bring Grace home” or similar derivative. How could this be?

Of course the thought of having my little angel home erased any thoughts of recovery plans.

Dalton and I dropped off the carseat for her 1 hour car seat test, then made a quick run to Babies R Us for some stuff. We then picked up Mary and Sarah and headed up to the Hospital to bring home our chunky monkey.

I don’t remember getting as much paperwork with Dalton... or my first house for that matter. Once all the John Hancocks were taken care of we were out the door.

I gave Adam instructions to continue eating well so that he too could come home. He gave me his best “Blue Steel” look and a thumbs up, so I think we understand each other.

So once again, these kids are on their own timeline. I think I will just roll with it for now. At least until we get Adam home. Then we will have a family meeting to go over the new schedule and assign new action items. From now on if one of them wants to change the way things are they will have to fill out a change request form...
